AQUARIUM FACILITIES

Los Angeles Zoo Sea Lion Exhibit
Los Angeles, CA

The new Sea Lion Exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo provides an aquatic habitat for five sea lions and three fur seals. Using California’s Channel Islands as the model environment, BIOS created two large pools, with volumes of 160,000 gallons, and a gently sloping water fall that links the two pools and provides an interactive slide for the pinnipeds. The exhibit will provide visitors with both below and above-water views into the habitat pools. Interpretive graphics will supplement docent-led activities that inform visitors about the behavior and adaptations of sea lions and harbor seals, as well as the ecosystem of Californian coastal waters. The project also includes new isolation/holding pools and kennels, animal management and food preparation spaces, and a life support equipment room.
